What Justin Bieber reminded me of

Apr 19, 2026

reconnecting with your WHY.

Just like Justin Bieber did at Coachella 2026 - something many of us have probably seen by now, even if at first it looked like just another YouTube karaoke-style show… but it went way deeper than that.

I was drawing a commercial project this morning while watching the live stream, and I literally couldn’t hold back my tears. Because we so often forget - later in life, when we get caught up in obligations, other people’s opinions, doubt, fear, and the idea that it’s “too late” - WHY we started in the first place.

In my case, why I started drawing… and also why I was performing - singing and dancing (I’ll share more on that later).

When I started drawing more than 10 years ago, there was no algorithm pressure. No client expectations. No revenue metrics. I simply needed something faster and more creative than computer renders, so I sketched.

Between my shifts at a hotel during my studies, I was sketching too, because I loved the simplicity and speed.

And then… recognition came.

My hotel manager caught me sketching and asked me to create banners. Professors were impressed by my style and even asked me to show my peers how I do it. Later, you guys found me on Instagram and wanted to learn too. Clients were looking for a unique and creative alternative for their marketing.

And just like that… drawing became an obligation.

After 10 years of drawing daily, I hit real burnout. Last year.

I was forcing myself to pick up a pencil. I hated the dependence on the algorithm and the pressure to produce one specific style - the same one everyone else started to do too.

I disconnected from my WHY.

Until I collapsed.
And stopped drawing. Sharing. Feeling excited about it. Even feeling that deep love for this skill that I KNOW is mine.

And ONLY when the silence came, when I let go of the algorithm and sales pressure, I went back to stable commercial work. (Drawing has always been my anchor in uncertain times, because this specific type of client will ALWAYS need my hand-drawn skills.)

And I could finally see my WHY again - from a bird’s-eye view (funny word play, because my current project literally consists of bird’s-eye illustrations for luxury hospitality).

And now, through small, slow sketches, I’m drawing my way back to my creativity.

I even started working with a creative coach to make this aligned this time, without burnout, without pressure. On my terms.

Just like Justin Bieber on that Coachella stage. You could FEEL how aligned he was.
And now… music.

No one from this drawing/design era really knows this, but before all of this, I was OBSESSED with music.

I took EVERY opportunity to sing at school events and in my early university days (journalism studies). I sang songs by Hilary Duff, Christina Aguilera, Amy Winehouse.

I was OBSESSED with music festivals and volunteered whenever I could, just to see how that world worked.

I tried drums. I did go-go dancing to support a DJ friend. I imagined myself on a BIG stage one day with my own band…

But… doubt, fear, and the belief that I wasn’t talented enough stopped me from taking it seriously.

Even though I was told I could reach a high level with practice.

When you don’t believe something is possible for you, you simply don’t pursue it.

You think: it’s not for me. It’s for them.

So… I stopped.

And turned to my second dream - interior design.

You know the rest.

I’m sharing this to show you the cost of beliefs that were never even yours.

They came from your surroundings. Your upbringing. But they are NOT yours.

So if you have that one thing - that project, that dream, that activity that gives you energy - and everyone around you thinks you’re crazy… YOU ARE NOT.

The cost of regret, of lost years or even decades, is WAY MORE painful than “disappointing” people and staying where they are.

I just booked my first vocal class on Zoom.
Downloaded a music production app.

And I’m ready to reconnect with that version of me that’s been silent for over a decade.

So it’s time to reconnect with your younger self.

Love,
