My “new season, new skill” obsession
Sep 11, 2026
Fall always feels like the beginning of a new productive chapter and the last big jump before the new year comes (2027 WHAT). And to make this season not just productive but creative, I’m coming to you with my newest drawing skill that I keep implementing into my own routine as someone who has actually been drawing interiors for clients for 7 years.
Speaking of clients… I just returned from New York, where one of my meetings was at the Ralph Lauren flagship store, where I created this sketch:
As usual, drawing also connected me with a local interior designer, Taylor, as she was fascinated by the iPad actually being useful for interior design and drawing. She was curious about how to actually make a piece of furniture suit the space, in other words, how to put it all together.
Step by step, it looks like this:
Space → cleaning up the space → grid for measurements → new design → AI for turning pieces of furniture into your perspective → distorting rugs → finishing touches → AI render… DONE!
This is, by the way, the exact tutorial you’ll find inside my iPad Quick Design Method HERE.
And this is THE skill - start mastering it this fall and use it FOR LIFE. In all kinds of situations.
Look, you’re visiting a super inspiring museum and LOVE one architectural detail. Why not… SKETCH a quick idea? To keep it better in your memory?
This is what my architect mom does, and she started sketching her ideas and inspirations early in architecture school. Funny enough, she actually sees sketching as something self-explanatory for an architect or designer, like… “Oh come on, that was nothing.”
NOTHING?!
I asked her the purpose of those scribbles, and she said, “Well, in just a few lines, I was able to recreate the visual experience.”
WOW. EXACTLY.
Whether for design projects, visual references, or simply filling a spare moment in between the hustle and bustle of a workday… you draw.
I am literally thinking right now about one 12-year-old-ish girl who, when I was sketching in the MoMA garden, came up to me and asked if she could sit there too (and sketch, as it turned out).
20 minutes later, her dad said, “Elisabeth, it’s time to go.” She then quickly looked at her sketch one last time, compared it to reality, and left.
Just like that… 20 minutes used for creativity.
In between NYC sightseeing.
AND her dad being supportive, so make sure you have supportive surroundings too ;)
So, happy fall, happy creating, and with big drawing energy,
Anna at @andshedrawsbig
